"The state’s independent grid operator will evaluate the effect of taking two Western New York coal-burning coal plants off the grid."

"The New York Independent System Operator, along with National Grid, will determine by October 30 if the state’s electrical grid can handle taking the Dunkirk and Huntley power plants offline, according to a letter sent to the state Department of Public Service on Thursday. NRG Energy announced last month that it would shutter the Huntley plant next year and mothball Dunkirk in light of a pending lawsuit over Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s plan to repower the plant with natural gas."
