8.14.20 - The wrong time for costly new business mandates
'Now, as political leaders in New York and elsewhere move to gradually reopen and get the economy back on track, they must adhere to one guiding principle given the nation’s fragile economic state: do no harm.'
'Case in point: The state Legislature is about to send a bill to the desk of Gov. Cuomo that experts warn imposes burdensome mandates on the airline industry, a pillar of the local and national economy that finds itself on the brink of collapse. He should waste no time in vetoing this legislation, no matter how well-intentioned it is.'
'The legislation, known as the New York Healthy Terminals Act, would require employers at John F. Kennedy International Airport, LaGuardia Airport and New York Stewart International Airport to pay wages and benefits to certain employees at levels set by the state instead of allowing the market to determine compensation.'
