8.02.17 - Con Ed agrees to emergency actions to prevent MTA power outages, delays
"Con Edison has agreed to take immediate actions to help prevent power-related delays on New York City's subway system, although it's not clear how the repairs and upgrades ordered by the state's utility regulator will be paid for."
"The Public Service Commission's order, approved on Wednesday, was the result of an investigation which Gov. Andrew Cuomo ordered after an April outage caused widespread subway delays."
"The utility agreed to dedicate personnel to perform inspections of all equipment serving the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which runs the subways. In addition, Con Ed agreed to install redundant electric supplies for the MTA and create a stockpile of generators or use other technology such as batteries to provide backup power for MTA stations."
