7.22.16 - A new vision for Penn Station

"Local residents, businesses, elected officials, civic groups and our business improvement district came together last summer to support an ambitious and ingenious way to improve the streetscape surrounding Penn Station: We agreed to close West 33rd Street to vehicle traffic."

"Known as Plaza 33, the new pedestrian plaza proved to be a favorite for New Yorkers and visitors alike. The space was dynamic and boasted comfortable seating, greenery, food options and a concert venue. What was once a dull and little-used cross street transformed into a place for people to wait for trains, grab a bite, or connect with friends before an event at Madison Square Garden. Plaza 33 was so popular that it is coming back again, with all signs pointing to it becoming a permanent fixture in the neighborhood."
