5.16.19 - New entrance, plaza coming to Penn Station

'Gov. Andrew Cuomo doesn't travel outside New York much, but he can't stay away from Penn Station.'

'Cuomo appeared at the hub Thursday to announce construction would soon begin on a new entrance and surrounding public space at West 33rd Street and Seventh Avenue. The portal will bring people into the Long Island Rail Road concourse and allow them access to the subway station and Amtrak terminal.'

'The governor promised the work would begin next month and conclude by the end of 2020.'

'Penn Station's only direct entrance to the LIRR level is on 34th Street. The new entrance on 33rd Street is expected to alleviate pedestrian congestion, which could worsen as forthcoming congestion pricing persuades some drivers to take the train instead.'
