5.16.17 - Firefighters to lobby Assembly on cancer coverage for volunteers bill
"Firefighters from across the state are in Albany today to advocate for a bill that would allow volunteer firefighters to have presumptive cancer coverage stemming from their public service."
"Ken Pienkowski, president of the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York, called passing the bill his organization’s top priority this year."
“There’s currently no formal assistance available for firefighters who find themselves facing cancer diagnoses,” he said at a press conference. “They and their families often face the incredibly difficult situation and associated medical bills completely on their own.”
