"But construction of the casino and resort just outside Monticello hasn’t even begun, and the project is already generating benefits I never dreamed of - many from the clearing of more than a hundred of acres and excavation for the 8,000-foot-long entrance road.

Just talk to Monticello native JJ Pavese.

"He’s the project manager for Yonkers Contracting, which is doing the infrastructure work. Before this job became available, Pavese, 30, was working in Pennsylvania because there was no job for him in Sullivan County.

“This job afforded me the chance to come home and make money here, because there’s not much here for young people like me,” he said Wednesday, sitting in the Yonkers trailer on the excavation site on Joyland Road."
