4.8.21 - ‘Enormous win for taxpayers:’ Town of Newburgh would get state aid for hosting new gambling hall
'The Town of Newburgh stands to collect $780,000 a year in state aid for hosting the planned gambling hall in the Newburgh Mall as a result of a budget concession state lawmakers won.'
'The newly finalized state budget dropped Gov. Andrew Cuomo's proposal to eliminate annual aid payments to most communities that host electronic gambling machines known as video lottery terminals, or VLTs. Only Yonkers, which dedicates that funding to its school system, would have continued to collect VLT aid under the proposal.'
'The defeat of that plan sweetens the financial benefits for Newburgh from the planned Resorts World Hudson Valley, which would house 1,300 video gambling machines. The casino operator already has offered to pay the town $3 million a year.'
