12.27.22 - New York’s newest VLT parlor set to open in Hudson Valley
' ALBANY, N.Y. — Resorts World is set to open its third gambling facility in New York on Wednesday.
The casino giant announced earlier this month that it will open Resorts World Hudson Valley — a new video-lottery terminal facility at the Newburgh Mall in Orange County just off Interstate 84.
The Genting-owned project, which will include 1,200 VLTs and electronic table games, has been years in the making and comes as the state Gaming Commission is set to open bidding by Jan. 6 for three New York City area casino licenses.
The Newburgh facility will complement Resorts World's other casinos in the region: the Aqueduct racetrack in Queens with 5,156 video-lottery terminals, one of the largest gaming floors in the country, and its Catskills casino near Monticello with 1,608 slot machines.
“Resorts World Hudson Valley represents a shared vision that we, along with our partners in Orange County, had to create an entertainment destination that will attract hundreds of thousands of guests and visitors, while providing tremendous benefits to the local, regional and statewide community,” Robert DeSalvio, president of Genting Americas East, said in a statement.

Resorts World Hudson Valley, about 60 north of Manhattan, was approved by the state Legislature in 2019. The approval allowed the company to relocate its video-lottery terminals after closing its racino at Monticello Raceway because of poor performance and competition with its Catskills casino. The Monticello site had 1,100 video-lottery terminals.
Initially, the plan was to build a new facility at a former chemical plant near the Woodbury Common outlet mall, but the sides settled on the Newburgh Mall.
The facility is set to open at 10 a.m. Wednesday, and will include about 50,000 square feet of gaming and hospitality amenities, such as a sports bar. It will have about 250 full-time workers, the company said.
The opening comes as Resorts World is hoping to win a casino license to turn its Queens facility into a full-scale gambling facility. It plans to bid for one of the three casinos licenses expected to be issued next year for the downstate region by the Gaming Commission.
There will now be nine VLT facilities in New York along with four upstate casinos. '
