11.05.16 - Firefighters gather in Albany for FASNY conference

"Hundreds of firefighters from across the state are in Albany on Saturday for their annual conference."

"This year's FASNY conference will focus on legislative priorities, mainly expanding cancer benefits for volunteer firefighters. Firefighters tend to see higher incidents of cancer due to breathing in toxic smoke."

“We don't volunteer to get cancer, but it's just a thing that happens with the job,” said Robin Schott of FASNY. “So we currently have a benefit with lung cancer, and we want to expand that to other parts of the body. More and more firefighters are dying or coming down with cancer every year.”

"On Sunday, FASNY will present an award to New York Sen. Joseph Griffo for his work on presumptive cancer coverage."
