JPMorgan Chase consecrated its new financial temple on Tuesday, a towering 60-story headquarters on Park Avenue that serves as a fresh reminder that New York remains the world’s capital of capital.
The new tower “sends an extraordinary signal of confidence, I might even add New York audacity, boldness and ambition. This is the future,” declared Gov. Kathy Hochul, one of many elected and civic leaders to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony although Mayor Eric Adams did not.
Superlatives rolled easily off the tongues of all who spoke at the hour-long ceremony inside the $3 billion tower for the $4 trillion-in-assets bank. The building sends unmistakable messages of massiveness, permanence and patriotism, with giant bronze beams in the lobby flanking an American flag flapping in a machine-generated breeze.
