1.30.20 - Leaving billions on the table: New York needs to allow mobile sports gambling

'The grim reality is that sports betting is clearly one of the largest illegal businesses in New York. Given that New Yorkers can now travel right across the Hudson to New Jersey and legally place regulated mobile bets, this is increasingly absurd.'

'Illegal bookmakers know that many New Yorkers want a convenient way to bet, but have no realistic outlet to place those wagers on game day.'

'The success of mobile sports betting in 14 states, with more coming in 2020, demonstrates that mobile sports betting can be conducted legally with consumer protections and oversight. It is paramount to New York that we move quickly, with swift action on this important issue.'

'That’s why we have sponsored legislation to capture the illegal betting market by authorizing mobile sports wagering, establishing consumer protections, providing help for people with addictions and requiring bookmakers to cooperate with integrity investigations by sports leagues.'
