09.29.2025 Bally’s Bronx casino bid survives key vote, advancing to last round
The Bronx casino proposal by Bally’s survived a crucial vote on Monday by a neighborhood panel, becoming the first brand-new casino bid to advance to the final round of the state’s competition.
The $4 billion project by the Rhode Island-based gambling firm was approved by its community advisory committee. The outcome guarantees that at least three casino bids will be able to vie for the three licenses that the state plans to award by the end of the year, following last week’s approval of the expansion proposals by existing racetrack-casinos at MGM Empire City in Yonkers and Resorts World in Queens.
Two projects have yet to face votes: Thor Equities’ bid in Coney Island, which appears likely to be rejected Monday afternoon, and Steve Cohen’s near Citi Field, which is primed for approval Tuesday morning and would enter the last round as a front-runner.
