08.12.2025 Bally’s casino back from the dead as council doesn’t act on Adams’ veto
Bally’s $4 billion Bronx casino proposal, which appeared dead a month ago, is officially alive again after the City Council gave up on trying to override Mayor Eric Adams’ veto that resurrected the project.
The council initially sided with local Councilwoman Kristy Marmorato by voting July 14 to reject the zoning changes Bally’s needed to build its project at Ferry Point Park in Throggs Neck. But Adams vetoed the council’s rejection on July 30, starting a 10-day clock for the council to kill the project once and for all by overriding his veto.
That deadline came and went on Monday — city law exempted the latest weekend from the clock — and the council took no action. The outcome had seemed likely since a private Aug. 4 meeting of the council’s Democratic conference revealed that lawmakers had little appetite to spend time and energy on the casino fight, especially given that the final decision on whether Bally’s gets a casino license belongs to state regulators.
