07.19.18 - De Blasio touts record affordable housing, boosted by major deal at Starrett City
'A tax break for the massive Starrett City housing complex, a sprawling Brooklyn development that had been partially owned by President Donald Trump, helped boost Mayor Bill de Blasio's affordable housing numbers to a record high.'
'When the city learned the 5,881-unit complex for low-income New Yorkers was going to be sold, the administration approved a $463 million tax break through 2054 to ensure the mostly Section 8 homes would remain affordable.'
'As a result, de Blasio's annual housing numbers skyrocketed in fiscal 2018, which ended June 30. The mayor on Thursday announced the city has financed 32,116 homes for people of restricted incomes, ranging from those who were destitute and homeless to those earning $120,615.'
