07.01.2026 Hochul demands insurance companies deliver on expected savings
ALBANY — Gov. Kathy Hochul pushed hard for changes in the state’s auto insurance laws as a way to lower costs for New Yorkers. Now that the changes have been adopted, it’s up to insurance companies to keep their end of the bargain.
The changes in auto insurance law, signed by Hochul in late May, aim to crack down on insurance fraud, including staged car crashes. They also expand the definition of fraud and capping personal injury compensation at $100,000 if the driver is uninsured, found to be under the influence or committing a felony at the time of the incident.
