02.01.16 - Salkin Says ‘Staggering’ Amount of Work Needed on Diversity
"Patricia Salkin, dean of the Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center, urged the New York State Bar Association's House of Delegates to use its influence to diversify the bar. Salkin, who received the Ruth G. Schapiro Memorial Award, said that while women have made "inroads" toward equality in the legal profession, it is "staggering how much more we need to do."
"I'm asking each one of you here today, regardless of whether you work in the public, private or nonprofit section, to join me in committing to mentoring, but also sponsoring and promoting other women," she told the House of Delegate members gathered at the New York Hilton Midtown. "If we were all to line up shoulder-to-shoulder, what a strong foundation we could create to lift up others, who can take our goals, our desires and our passions to the next level."
